I sat in the passenger seat of my best friend's van, while Ikuni was inside our apartment grabbing a few things. I asked, "I can't even go in and put on some makeup?"
My friend leaned toward me and smiled. "Think of it this way. You look more...authentic like that."
Ikuni climbed into the back seat and we started toward a local hospital, known for having one of the best psychiatric wards in the city.
That was last August. When it all became too much. The grief. The anxiety. The anger.
It was one of the hardest days of my life. Also, a first step toward healing.
