I slept through my alarm this morning

I slept through my alarm this morning. I woke up exactly five minutes before class started, shoved myself into the clothes I was wearing yesterday, took a brief moment to channel Flo-Jo, and sprinted. I was still late, but at least now I can convince myself I worked out today and eat a slice of cheesecake.

Engineers really get a bad rep. Everybody makes us out to be pretty darn lame, but I don't think there is a single profession out there with more dirty jokes worked into the lingo...For example, take the term "partial penetration butt weld." Can anybody read that without having a flashback to junior high?

It's a secret

"Mommy," he said "I made you something at school today."
"Oh really?" I asked "What is it?"
"I can't tell you." he replied. "It is a surprise. For Christmas. For Christmas I made you a picture frame. I made a picture frame with a picture of me in it. Teacher Lisa took pictures of all the kids at my school and we made picture frames for our parents for Christmas, but it is a secret."

One of the best things about working as an aide in a second grade classroom is being with kids who are, for the most part, too young to be corrupt. When they say something inappropriate, it comes from a pure and innocent place. So, when the teacher asked for an example of a word with the "short i" sound, and a student raised his hand and said, "Tit"...shouldn't he get partial credit?

I'm such a novice at this kindergarten thing. I'm the mom who forgets the hat and sunscreen, who sends a snack that requires a spoon, who arrives five minutes late for the second day of kindergarten because, as it turns out, fifteen minutes ahead of time is not soon enough to start bundling a four-year-old and a three-year-old into the car for a three-minute drive.
